"The Glory of God is Intelligence and Truth..." D&C 93:36

I've been pondering on the worth of souls this past month and why they are great in the sight of God. (D&C 18:10) One of the things that has really stood out to me is that a soul is the body and spirit combined. It is the worth of our 'carnal' bodies, which are naturally 'an enemy of God' with our spirits that are of such GREAT worth to our Father in Heaven. The immediate verses following talk about the importance of repentance and our need to proclaim it to others. In D&C 93:33-34 it says,
      "33 For man is ^aspirit. The elements are ^beternal, and ^cspirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy;

       34 And when ^aseparated, man cannot receive a fulness of joy."

In these verses we learn that our spirit and our bodies are inseparably connected, so how our spirit and body act will always affect the other. Our spirits came from the presence of God and will always long to be back with Him. When our bodies act in discord to the desire of our spirit we experience sin, shame, sadness, and misery. The way we return to live with our Father in Heaven is through repentance. The only way we can repent is if we are taught about the gospel, come to understand it, and change our physical actions to come spiritually closer to our Heavenly Father... change ourselves to realign our bodies with our spirit's desire to return to God. 

     When our soul is united with our body and soul working together, we develop Christlike characteristics and become more like our Heavenly Father.  D&C 93:36 says, 

     "36 The ^aglory of God is ^bintelligence, or, in other words, ^clight and truth."

     When our soul is united we are filled with light, we come to know truth, and we grow in intelligence. In the webster dictionary it says that intelligence is "the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations." In other words it is to continue to change and grow. In our case it is to change and grow to become more like God. 

    As teachers at the MTC, we teach the Lord's missionaries. We need to help His missionaries understand why they are great in His sight. As His missionaries come to understand their eternal importance to Him, their understanding of the importance of the Gospel increases. As the missionaries act on the Gospel and experience it, they'll have a greater desire to share it.  Missionaries will have new and trying experiences, but through the gospel they will use those experiences to change to become more like the Savior. They will grow in light and truth and become the sons and daughters they are divinely destined to be.

  It's my hope that we can put a little more effort and focus into helping our missionaries develop their relationship with their Father in Heaven so they can be more effected emissaries for Him in helping others come unto Him also.
